I am Mariyan Bahadarakhann, and my journey began in a refugee camp, raised in a low-income neighborhood by a single mother of seven. I learned the values of hard work, resilience, and community from an early age. At just 12, I started my first business, igniting my passion for entrepreneurship and helping others. Later, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from California State University, Long Beach, followed by a Law Degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. I’m ready to channel my experiences into serving our community, running for Garden Grove City Council District 5.
My career spans various roles, including law clerk, business consultant, and real estate broker. With extensive experience in investment banking, real estate financing, and commercial real estate, I now serve as a mortgage consultant for M B-Real Estate, guiding buyers and sellers through complex real estate transactions. In 2012, I was honored to be named Miss Cambodia, which deepened my commitment to giving back. I've worked with children in low-income areas, coordinated with Reading to Kids, and sponsored SmileOnU to provide dental care internationally.
The past few years have been incredibly challenging for me personally. I’ve faced fertility challenges, family issues, and the loss of loved ones. Having lived through the struggles of housing affordability and family hardships, my priorities are clear: safe streets, clean water, affordable housing, and honest leadership that puts people before politics.
I want you to know that I truly understand your struggles—whether they’re fertility challenges, family loss, or mental health struggles. I’m here to be your voice. No matter your skin color, background, ethnicity, or gender, we are all connected by shared emotions. Let’s listen to one another, and instead of allowing division to tear us apart, let’s choose compassion. My goal is to build a stronger Garden Grove, where the safety and security of our families come first.
